This project is called “Shredding” by David Aspinall, David is a graphic designer that graduated from Central Saint Martins (London) in 2007. This project came from a brief entitled: 2D Material, 3D Type. This piece was a part of his degree show at Central St Martins.
He used 2D strips of paper and made them 3D by folding them into letter forms based on the Arial font. This piece was then framed and thus became a 3D sculpture. This piece was posted on Swissmiss a while back and it was just such a wonderful piece that for all this time I had it in my bookmarks. It just sat there waiting for me to actually keep up this blog.
“Shredding” is such a wonderfully simple piece. Knowing what the brief was makes the piece even better in my opinion.
